Israel Levels 1,000 Buildings In Gaza City

The Palestinian Civil Defence reported that Israeli forces have razed over 1,000 buildings in Gaza City since launching their ground invasion on August 6. Entire neighborhoods in Zeitoun and Sabra have been flattened, with emergency crews saying hundreds remain buried beneath collapsed structures. The group warned that continuous shelling and blocked roads have paralyzed rescue and relief operations, while hospitals struggle to cope with the rising death toll.

Israeli tanks advanced deeper into Gaza City on Sunday, rolling through Sabra as bombardments intensified across the north. Civil Defence officials said the scale of destruction confirms fears that Israel is pursuing a campaign to demolish Gaza City entirely, similar to the devastation seen in Rafah earlier this year. At least three people, including a child, were killed when a residential block on al-Jalaa Street was struck. The nearby Jabalia refugee camp was also heavily bombarded, compounding the humanitarian disaster.

Mounting Deaths And Famine Conditions

Medical sources told Al Jazeera that 51 Palestinians were killed across Gaza in a single day, including 27 in Gaza City and 24 people waiting for aid. Gaza’s Ministry of Health added that starvation is worsening, with 289 people — 115 of them children — now confirmed dead from malnutrition since the war began. Aid agencies reported Israeli forces opening fire on civilians seeking food at distribution points, further heightening fears of deliberate deprivation.

Nearly one million Palestinians have been forced southwards as Israeli forces expand their operations. Gaza’s Interior Ministry urged residents not to abandon their homes under pressure from Israeli threats, warning that displacement is part of a broader campaign to remove Palestinians from Gaza. Al Jazeera correspondents described families fleeing under drone fire, with quadcopters targeting anyone on the move. Rights groups and UN experts have accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza as destruction, famine, and civilian killings escalate.
