The Israeli military announced Sunday that it had killed a senior Hezbollah intelligence figure, Abbas Hassan Wahbi, in an airstrike on the town of Mahrouna in southern Lebanon, amid ongoing cross-border hostilities.

Hezbollah Figures Targeted in Southern Campaign

According to a statement posted on Telegram, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claimed Wahbi was involved in efforts to rebuild Hezbollah’s intelligence network and facilitate the transfer of advanced weaponry. The strike marks a continuation of targeted operations by Israel despite a nominal ceasefire in place since November.

Just a day earlier, the IDF reported killing another Hezbollah figure responsible for anti-tank missile operations in the Bint Jbeil area, also in southern Lebanon. That commander, named by Israeli media as Hassan Mahmoud, had allegedly launched multiple attacks on Israeli territory.

Rising Tensions Along the Blue Line

The strikes come amid increasing Israeli efforts to prevent Hezbollah from reestablishing military capabilities in southern Lebanon. Although a ceasefire technically remains in place, near-daily airstrikes and rocket fire have reignited hostilities along the Blue Line.

The Lebanese Health Ministry confirmed that three people were killed in separate Israeli strikes on Saturday, bringing renewed attention to the risks of broader escalation.
