The union of dock workers, Enedep, made a strong statement Tuesday, declaring, “We will not unload a single inch of this murderous cargo.” The declaration targets the Ever Golden, a Panama-flagged container ship owned by a Japanese firm. The vessel is carrying military-grade steel reportedly en route to Israel and is expected to arrive at the Piraeus port on 14 July.

According to tracking data from Vessel Finder, the ship was last seen sailing off the coast of West Africa. The plan is for the steel cargo to be transferred to another vessel, the Folk Dammam, which will complete the shipment’s delivery to Israel.

The Greek dock workers' move aligns with broader global actions against military support to Israel during the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Enedep’s statement explicitly condemned Greece’s indirect participation and expressed support for the Palestinian cause, saying, “No to Greece’s involvement — freedom for Palestine.”

The union’s refusal underscores growing labor solidarity movements opposing the flow of weapons amid the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, following similar actions taken in other countries' ports.
