Former Ukrainian shot dead in Spain

Andriy Portnov, aide of ex-Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich, was shot and killed in a targeted assassination in Madrid.

Ukraine's former president Viktor Yanukovich before he was ousted in 2014. He is believed to have been dropping his children at school in the Spanish capital when he was targeted, according to local media.

The 52-year-old former official, who had faced treason charges in Ukraine and was widely accused of collaborating with Russia, was reportedly shot five times, including once in the neck.

Witnesses say the gunman then approached Portnov as he lay wounded and delivered a fatal shot to the head before fleeing the scene.
