Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held a joint press conference Tuesday, pledging closer cooperation on the Israel-Palestine crisis and reiterating a shared readiness to support diplomacy between Russia and Ukraine.

Lavrov strongly condemned the situation in Gaza and the West Bank, describing the violence as “unacceptable,” and emphasized that “Russia and Türkiye share a common view on Palestine.” He added, “We will use all our diplomatic measures to put an end to violence in Palestine.”

Fidan echoed these sentiments, stating that both countries seek to strengthen cooperation on resolving broader regional challenges. “Russia and Türkiye want to strengthen cooperation in finding solutions to problems in the Middle East and Africa,” Lavrov noted.

Türkiye Renews Ukraine Peace Offer

Turning to the Ukraine conflict, Fidan said Ankara is hopeful that renewed diplomatic efforts “will bring along a ceasefire.” He reaffirmed Türkiye’s offer to host new rounds of peace talks, saying, “Follow-up meetings can be hosted in Istanbul.”

Lavrov welcomed Türkiye’s involvement, describing talks with Fidan as “fruitful.” He stressed that progress depends on addressing “the root cause of the problem” in Ukraine.

Lavrov also relayed that during Fidan’s meeting with President Vladimir Putin, the Russian leader confirmed his intent to press ahead with joint Türkiye-Russia projects despite “outside attempts to hinder cooperation.”

Fidan added that both sides are preparing memoranda to be exchanged, signaling concrete steps in advancing bilateral relations.
