A recently surfaced video appears to show a significant number of Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) soldiers surrendering to Fano militia in Ethiopia’s Amhara region. The footage, though not yet independently verified, depicts dozens of uniformed soldiers surrounded by armed militia members.
The event reportedly occurred in a rural part of Amhara, where clashes between federal troops and Fano forces have been ongoing amid growing unrest.
Rising Tensions in Amhara
Once informally allied with federal troops during the Tigray war, the Fano militia has since clashed with the government over issues such as disarmament and regional autonomy. Fighting in Amhara has intensified, with frequent confrontations and growing civilian displacement.
The apparent mass surrender raises questions about morale and coordination within the national army and signals the growing strength of the Fano movement.
