On Dec. 24, 2025, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed Gaza, Israel, and maritime disputes, rejecting Israeli actions and Netanyahu’s remarks, citing over 70,000 Palestinian deaths, blocked aid, and reaffirming Türkiye’s stance in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan set out a consolidated position on Gaza, Israel, and regional maritime disputes, framing Türkiye’s stance as firm but restrained. Speaking publicly, Erdoğan stressed continuity rather than change, saying that agreements, signatures, or messages “will not change our policy.” His remarks linked external diplomacy with moral judgment, positioning Ankara as unwilling to yield rights while avoiding operational detail.
Erdoğan reiterated that Türkiye’s approach applied equally across multiple theaters. “Whether in the Eastern Mediterranean, the Aegean, or anywhere else,” he said, Türkiye would neither claim what is not rightfully its own nor allow its rights to be taken. By naming three arenas, he underscored that Ankara views these disputes as interconnected rather than episodic.
“Empty Noise” and Moral Standing
Erdoğan’s sharpest language was directed at Israel’s leadership. Without naming specific officials, he said those “responsible for the blood of more than 70,000 Palestinians have no moral standing in our eyes,” adding that their provocations amounted to “nothing more than empty noise.” The figure of more than 70,000 was used to anchor his moral argument, not as a military assessment, reinforcing the framing of Gaza as a humanitarian and ethical issue rather than a tactical one.
At the same time, Erdoğan emphasized that Türkiye “stands for peace and calm today as well,” drawing a distinction between restraint and acquiescence. “This does not mean that we accept injustice or remain silent in the face of oppression. Never,” he said, pairing conciliatory language with categorical refusal to disengage.
Humanitarian Commitments Tested
A central element of the address concerned aid delivery to Gaza. Erdoğan said that under an agreement, 600 aid trucks were to enter Gaza daily, but that Israel had failed to uphold this commitment, “repeatedly obstructing humanitarian aid with unfounded excuses.” He cited the continuation of hardship despite a ceasefire in place since Oct. 11, pointing to residential areas reduced to rubble.
Weather conditions were highlighted as compounding the crisis. Erdoğan referred to heavy rainfall, flooded tents, and babies and children suffering from hypothermia, presenting these scenes as evidence that delays in aid have immediate human costs.
Historical Framing and Continuity
Erdoğan placed current policy within a longer historical narrative, saying Türkiye has been a refuge for the oppressed “without regard to religion, language, or origin.” He referenced Jews fleeing the Inquisition and Nazi persecution, as well as those in need across four regions—the Caucasus, the Balkans, Africa, and Asia. “This was true in the past, it is true today, and it will never change,” he said.
Closing on Gaza, Erdoğan stated: “As Türkiye, we will not bow down, we will not remain silent, and we will not forget; we will never leave Gaza alone.” The formulation reinforced a posture of endurance rather than escalation, combining moral positioning with policy continuity toward Israel and Gaza.
