Egypt has strongly rejected Israeli plans to expel Palestinians from Gaza, describing them as an attempt to “empty Palestinian land” and a violation of international law. In a statement on Sunday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry warned that such measures would constitute ethnic cleansing and a historical injustice without legal or moral justification.
Cairo’s Warning
Egypt said it contacted countries reportedly approached by Israel for relocation schemes, and that those states had declined participation. The ministry stressed that any attempt to remove Palestinians — by force or through starvation and land seizures — would breach the Geneva Conventions and risk “grave regional consequences.”
Israeli Plans and Regional Reaction
According to Middle East Eye, Israel is preparing to push one million residents from Gaza City to a designated zone in the south, providing tents and shelter as bombardments continue. Health officials in Gaza reported at least 57 deaths on Sunday, including civilians killed while seeking aid.
Leaked Israeli recordings revealed calls by a retired general for mass killings, describing them as a “necessary deterrent” and even invoking the 1948 Nakba.
International Dimensions
The Associated Press reported that Israel held talks with South Sudan over setting up camps for displaced Palestinians, though the scope of these discussions remains unclear. Similar consultations were rumored with Somalia and Sudan.
Egypt’s denunciation comes as it faces criticism over its own $35 billion gas import deal with Israel, seen by activists as economic complicity amid the Gaza war.
