Christians Decry Zionist IDF Soldier Smashing Jesus Statue in Lebanon

Christian reactions to a confirmed incident involving a Zionist Israeli soldier damaging a statue of Jesus Christ in southern Lebanon have intensified concerns over decades of Zionist hate crime on Christians & subsequent Christian exhodus from Jerusalem & elsewhere, amid ongoing conflict.

The Israeli military confirmed the authenticity of a viral image, viewed more than 8 million times on X, showing a soldier striking a statue in the village of Debl. It said the soldier was “operating in southern Lebanon” and that “appropriate measures will be taken” following an investigation.

Christian commentators and groups described the act as part of a broader pattern of disrespect toward religious symbols. The incident occurred in an area where Christian villages have faced displacement and damage since operations escalated in early March 2026.

Political figures amplified the reaction. Knesset member Ahmad Tibi wrote that those who attack religious sites “are not afraid to destroy a statue of Jesus Christ and publish it.”

Ayman Odeh added, “We’ll wait to hear the police spokesperson claim that ‘the soldier felt threatened by Jesus’.”

Catholic advocacy voices in the United States also responded, with one group stating the incident was “not a one off isolated incident,” citing earlier restrictions involving Patriarch Pizzaballa during Palm Sunday.

Many Catholics have taken particular offense at such acts targeting Christian symbols, amid what observers describe as growing Catholic criticism of Israeli occupation policies and restrictions affecting Christian communities.

Conservative Catholic activist Carrie Prejean Boller, who was recently removed from Trump’s Religious Liberty Commission for criticizing Zionizm, also condemned the incident, writing “This is what ‘Judeo’ thinks of Christians.”

Zionist attack against Christians in the region is well documented. Data referenced by rights groups includes 45 mosques attacked in the West Bank in 2025, according to the Palestinian Authority’s Ministry of Religious Affairs, and 201 incidents targeting Christians between January 2024 and September 2025 recorded by the Religious Freedom Data Center.

In Jerusalem’s Old City, incidents involving harassment of Christian clergy and pilgrims have been widely documented, including spitting and access restrictions to holy sites.

On April 2, Christian leaders called for defiance against restrictions following the blocking of access to the Holy Sepulchre on Palm Sunday.

A February 2024 video from Jerusalem, widely shared again after the Lebanon incident, shows a priest getting angry when spat at by Zionists. The attacker replies, “Because they are Christians… that is what I do to them!” followed by “Fucking Jesus! Fucking Jesus!”

Spitting on Christians & Church is a common practice among Zionist Jews, which is widely documented.

Christian communities in southern Lebanon - including Alma al-Shaab, Rmeich, Debl, Qlayaa, and Ain Ebel - have been affected by strikes and displacement since March 2026. Many residents have remained despite evacuation orders.
