Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Beijing on July 14, reaffirming both nations’ commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and advancing cooperation. The meeting marked a continuation of efforts to stabilize relations following recent leadership engagements between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Han Zheng emphasized the importance of China and India, as major developing nations and key members of the Global South, working as partners to ensure mutual success. He called on both sides to further implement the consensus reached at the October meeting between Xi and Modi in Kazan, stressing steady advancement in pragmatic cooperation, mutual respect, and efforts to maintain healthy and stable relations.

Jaishankar echoed these sentiments, noting the steady improvement in ties since the Xi-Modi meeting. He highlighted India's readiness to uphold the leaders' guidance, strengthen bilateral cooperation, and deepen coordination within multilateral organizations like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

India also expressed its support for China’s role as the rotating chair of the SCO this year, with Jaishankar committing to enhance communication and collaboration within such platforms. This reflects both nations’ shared interest in promoting stability and growth within broader regional and international structures.

The meeting underscored ongoing diplomatic efforts to manage relations and reduce tensions while exploring avenues for cooperation across trade, security, and regional governance.
