The United States, Russia and Ukraine have agreed to carry out a prisoner exchange involving 314 detainees following trilateral talks hosted in the United Arab Emirates’ capital, Abu Dhabi.
First Prisoner Swap in Five Months
U.S. President Donald Trump’s Middle East Special Envoy Steve Witkoff announced the agreement, confirming that delegations from Washington, Moscow and Kyiv had reached a consensus during ongoing negotiations in Abu Dhabi.
In a post shared on the social media platform X, Witkoff said the parties had jointly agreed on the exchange, noting that it would be the first prisoner swap between the sides in the past five months.
“Detailed and Productive” Negotiations
Witkoff described the discussions as “detailed and productive,” adding that such steps demonstrate that diplomatic efforts are yielding tangible results.
“These kinds of actions show that diplomacy is producing concrete outcomes and that efforts to end the war in Ukraine are moving forward,” he said.
Talks Continue in Abu Dhabi
Trilateral negotiations between the United States, Russia and Ukraine began in Abu Dhabi yesterday and are continuing today, according to officials.
The current round follows earlier trilateral meetings held in the Emirati capital on January 23–24, which marked the first such format involving all three countries since the war began.
The latest agreement is seen as a confidence-building measure amid ongoing efforts to explore diplomatic pathways toward de-escalation.
