President Recep Tayyip Erdogan escalated his criticism of Israel’s leadership on Tuesday, declaring Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “ideologically almost a relative of Hitler” and denouncing last week’s strike on Hamas negotiators in Doha as “a blatant challenge to international order and international law.” He said he would take Türkiye’s case for Palestinian statehood back to the UN after a sweeping General Assembly vote backing a two-state pathway.
Remarks After Doha Summit
Speaking to reporters en route from Qatar, Erdogan said Israel “has turned its radical mindset into nothing more than a murderous network built on fascist ideology,” adding: “Just as Hitler could not foresee the defeat that awaited him, Netanyahu will face the same ultimate fate.” He described the strike on the Hamas negotiating team as “an open challenge to the international system and law.”
International Fallout From Doha
The UN human-rights chief condemned the Doha strike as a “shocking breach of international law,” while Gulf and wider regional diplomats warned it undermined mediation efforts. In parallel, officials said the US and Qatar were nearing an enhanced defense agreement in response to the security shock.
UN Two-State Momentum
Erdogan tied his remarks to diplomatic tailwinds after the General Assembly endorsed the New York Declaration laying out a roadmap to a two-state solution, with 142 votes in favor. He said the recognitions announced by several Western capitals would “put more pressure on Israel,” pledging to elevate the issue at the UN this month.
