June 10, 2025Clash Report
The Sudanese Armed Forces have regained control of Al-Daka and Karfara, two critical areas near Kauda in South Kordofan, dislodging SPLM-North fighters loyal to Abdelaziz al-Hilu in a notable battlefield advance.
The reclaimed areas—Al-Daka and Karfara—are located just outside Kauda, long considered a de facto capital for the SPLM-North (al-Hilu faction). The Sudanese Army's operation signals renewed momentum in its efforts to reassert state authority across contested zones in South Kordofan, a region pivotal for both logistical and symbolic reasons.
Military sources described the operation as part of a broader strategy to dismantle rebel footholds and reestablish full control over key mountain corridors historically used for arms and personnel movement.
The SPLM-North (al-Hilu faction) has held sway in parts of South Kordofan and Blue Nile states since Sudan’s civil wars, particularly following the 2011 resumption of conflict after South Sudan's secession. Kauda served as their main base, and previous peace talks have repeatedly failed over the group’s demand for secular governance and self-rule.
The latest gains by the army could shift ground dynamics and complicate future negotiations.
