According to the indictment, Jian G—whose full surname is withheld due to German privacy laws—was embedded in Krah’s parliamentary office from September 2019 to April 2024. During this time, he allegedly gathered sensitive material and funneled it to Chinese officials. German authorities accuse him of maintaining long-term contact with a Chinese intelligence agency, exploiting his access to classified briefings and inter-parliamentary communications.
Jaqi X, a Chinese national, is also standing trial. Prosecutors say she worked at Leipzig Airport’s logistics company and provided Jian with transportation data, including flight and cargo information related to European defense movements.
The case has intensified controversy surrounding Maximilian Krah, who is himself under investigation for alleged bribery and money laundering involving Chinese entities during his term in the European Parliament. Though Krah denies the accusations, he remains a divisive figure even within the AfD. His alleged ties to Beijing have sparked political backlash amid growing European concerns over espionage and foreign interference.
The Chinese government has denied any involvement, while its foreign ministry declined immediate comment on the case. The Dresden court proceedings are expected to continue until September.
