Victoria Police confirmed that a 50-year-old man and two women, aged 48 and 28, were charged with assault, riotous behaviour, criminal damage, and affray. The protest took place on July 5, when around 20 people gathered at the city-centre restaurant Miznon, owned by Israeli businessman Shahar Segal.

According to police, the confrontation involved physical altercations and property destruction, including a broken glass door. A broader investigation remains underway.

Political Ties and Restaurant’s Response

The activist group Whistleblowers, Activists and Communities Alliance said the restaurant was targeted due to Segal's past role as a spokesperson for the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which has been criticised over its proximity to Israeli military operations in Gaza. The group accused the foundation of participating in a “militarised aid scheme.”

In response, Miznon released a statement calling for calm and distancing itself from political affiliations: “We are a restaurant, a place of hospitality... We feed people from every background and viewpoint.”

Segal, for his part, said he stepped down from his GHF position days before the protest, citing no specific reason.

Authorities also confirmed an unrelated fire at a Melbourne synagogue on the same day. A 34-year-old man has been charged, and no links have been made between the two incidents.
