Zionism vs Vatican: Trump's Public Feud with Pope Leo Continues
The dramatic public feud between Trump & Vatican's Pope Leo has continued, with Trump launching a fresh attack on the pontiff Tuesday night. Their clash increasingly reflects deeper confrontation between Zionist political doctrine & Vatican’s moral opposition to war & zionism.

A public rift between U.S. President Donald Trump and Pope Leo XIV has intensified, with Trump renewing his criticism on April 14, urging people to “tell Pope Leo” about Iran’s actions and warning that Tehran obtaining nuclear weapons is “absolutely unacceptable.” The remarks follow weeks of escalating tensions since the war began on Feb. 28.
Pope Leo has openly condemned the war, stating that God rejects the prayers of those who wage war with “hands full of blood.” He also criticized threats to destroy Iranian civilization and declined to join a U.S.-led Gaza initiative.
Responding to Trump, the pope said: “I don’t think that the message of the Gospel is meant to be abused,” adding he would continue promoting “peace” and “dialogue” between states.
Trump sharpened his tone, calling the pope “weak” and “terrible” and saying, “I don’t think he’s doing a very good job.” He also suggested disagreement over nuclear issues and migration policy.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni intervened, calling Trump’s remarks “unacceptable” and expressing solidarity with the pope, prompting Trump to respond that “she is the one who is unacceptable.”
The dispute has been further inflamed by Trump posting an AI-generated image of himself depicted as Jesus, which he shared in apparent response to the pope’s criticism.
The move triggered widespread backlash across social media and religious communities, with critics describing it as offensive and inappropriate, given the context of the war and the pope’s calls for moral restraint.
The post drew condemnation from commentators and public figures worldwide, who argued it blurred the line between political messaging and religious symbolism, relating it to alleged anti-Catholic sentiment amongst Zionist affiliated political groups influencing American policies. Trump later deleted the post following popular backclash.
Yet the reaction added another layer to the escalating confrontation, intensifying scrutiny of Trump’s rhetoric and conduct amid the crisis.
Tension has also spilled into Trump’s broader religious and political network. Earlier in 2026, Carrie Prejean Boller - a Catholic member of his religious advisory structures - was removed after challenging the framing of anti-Zionism as antisemitism, a move that drew concern among some Catholic voices.
At the same time, former U.S. official Joe Kent, a practicing Catholic, broke with the administration over the Iran war, criticizing U.S. policy in the region and reflecting unease among segments of the Catholic community.
These developments have fueled a growing perception among some Catholics that their rejection of Zionism is increasingly at odds with pro-Israel positions strongly backed by evangelical political currents in the United States.
The war, now in its seventh week since Feb. 28, has involved U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, alongside Iranian retaliation targeting Israel and Gulf states hosting U.S. bases.
The conflict has killed thousands and displaced millions, adding urgency to diplomatic efforts as religious and political narratives increasingly diverge over legitimacy and conduct.
