Survivors: "UAE Support Powered RSF Brutality in Darfur"

Survivors from El Fasher describe deliberate killings and systematic sexual violence by the RSF. They also say these atrocities were enabled by external support that strengthened the group’s campaign.

The testimonies come from 28 survivors who fled toward Tawila and Tina after the RSF entered El Fasher on 26 October, trapping an estimated 260,000 civilians in the city.

They recount executions, ransom killings, rape, and targeted brutality committed as RSF units consolidated control across North Darfur’s last remaining urban center.

UAE-Enabled RSF Violence

Survivors said the RSF’s assault unfolded with growing confidence, aligning with accusations that external support—including from the UAE—facilitated the group’s ability to wage widespread attacks on civilians.

Amnesty’s assessment states that “these atrocities were facilitated by the UAE’s support,” and calls for urgent international pressure to halt all assistance.

The findings have renewed demands for adherence to existing arms embargoes and expansion of monitoring beyond Darfur.

Executions of Unarmed Men

Witnesses consistently described summary executions. One man reported that fighters declared: “In El Fasher, there are no civilians,” before killing four men beside him. Another survivor said 17 of 20 men fleeing with him were shot at point-blank range.

A third watched as RSF fighters opened fire on a group of seven friends after surrounding them at the city berm.

Civilians spoke of bodies scattered across roads and neighborhoods.

Rape and Sexual Assault

Women described being stopped on escape routes, separated, and raped by RSF fighters—in some cases alongside their daughters.

One mother recounted how she and her 14-year-old daughter were assaulted; the girl later died after her health deteriorated. Another was raped three times in a makeshift shelter, while 10 other women were assaulted during searches.

Ransom Killings and Forced Displacement

Some survivors said captives were held for ransom, with threats of execution if payments were not made—at least one killing was filmed and shown to relatives.

Others described elderly patients and the wounded being executed when they could not board RSF vehicles. Many walked miles across arid terrain to reach safety, losing companions to dehydration.
