Iran Denies Missile Launch Toward Türkiye

Iran’s General Staff issued a statement asserting that it did not fire any missile toward Türkiye. “We respect the sovereignty of our neighboring and friendly country Türkiye and deny any missile launch toward it,” the statement said. The announcement came following Turkish Defense Ministry reports of a ballistic projectile, initially detected heading toward Turkish airspace, that was neutralized by NATO air and missile defense assets stationed in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The Ministry of National Defense had earlier reported that the missile-like object was intercepted before entering Türkiye’s airspace. NATO’s systems in the region effectively rendered the projectile harmless, underscoring both alliance readiness and Türkiye’s integrated air defense capabilities.

Following the incident, Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan contacted his Iranian counterpart Ali Bagheri Erakchi via telephone. According to Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs sources, Fidan communicated Türkiye’s concerns over the missile incident and emphasized the importance of avoiding actions that could expand regional hostilities.
