Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) carried out a cross-border strike into Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government targeting Iranian Kurdish opposition groups operating from the area. Iranian media said the attack involved 3 missiles directed at facilities used by dissident organizations based in territory controlled by the Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government(IKRG), near the city of Sulaymaniyah.
The semi-official Tesnim News Agency cited a statement from Hatemul Enbiya Headquarters, a command structure affiliated with the IRGC. According to the report, the command center said it had “targeted the bases with three missiles.” The statement confirmed that installations belonging to Iranian Kurdish opposition groups were the intended targets of the strike.
Iran has long accused several Kurdish organizations operating from northern Iraq of conducting or supporting activities against the Iranian government. Although the statement focused only on confirming the strike, the operation reflects Tehran’s continued willingness to use cross-border missile fire against groups it considers security threats.
Local reports identified the strike area as Zirgwez village, located near Sulaymaniyah in Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government. The settlement is known to host members of Iranian Kurdish opposition groups along with their families, placing both political organizations and civilians in close proximity.
Residents and local media described hearing four explosions following the strike. Reports said “four explosion sounds were heard” across the area shortly after the attack. While Iranian media confirmed the launch of 3 missiles, the 4 blasts heard locally may indicate multiple impacts or secondary detonations, though no technical details were provided about the munitions involved.
Local media also emphasized that there were no casualties following the incident. Reports said “no loss of life was reported,” despite the explosions occurring in a populated area where families linked to the opposition groups live.
