Gen. Mohamed “Hemedti” Dagalo, leader of the UAE-backed Rapid Support Forces, declared that any aircraft or drone taking off from neighbouring countries to support the Sudanese army “is, for us, a legitimate target.”
His remarks mark a sharp escalation in rhetoric, signalling potential cross-border strikes and deepening regional tensions.
The Warning
In his address, Hemedti said: “Any aircraft that takes off from an airport — that airport, for us, is a legitimate target.
Listen to these words carefully.” He added that those aiding the SAF “to strike or to kill” would bear the consequences.
Regional Implications
The statement comes amid accusations that foreign states are supplying both warring sides.
Analysts warn that targeting airports could endanger humanitarian operations and drag neighbouring countries further into Sudan’s war.
