Sudan's Sovereignty Council has appointed Dr. Kamil Idris as the country's new Prime Minister, reversing a previous decision to appoint a caretaker leader, according to sources from Al Arabiya. The move comes amid ongoing political uncertainty and efforts to stabilize the nation following months of unrest.
Idris is a well-respected figure in international diplomacy, known for his extensive work in the field of intellectual property rights. He served as the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and was also the Secretary-General of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV).
Born in the village of Al-Zowarat in northern Sudan, Idris holds a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Cairo University, a law degree, and a PhD in international law from the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva. He has also held academic positions at the University of Khartoum and Peking University, where he served as an honorary law professor.
Fluent in Arabic, English, and French, Idris has served as a Sudanese diplomat at the United Nations and was a member of the UN International Law Commission for two terms. His multilingual capabilities have enabled him to engage effectively in global diplomatic forums.
