KK Park had operated as a base for extensive online fraud, money laundering, and forced labor over the past five years. Thousands of workers, including individuals from African countries, were lured with promises of high-paying jobs but then held against their will. Survivors reported grueling work, physical abuse, and torture for failing to meet targets.
The military announced that the raid was part of a broader effort to reclaim territory along the Thai border. During the operation, authorities seized 30 Starlink satellite terminals, which had been widely used by the criminal network.
Criminal Network and Leadership
KK Park was established in 2020 through a lease agreement between the KNU and Hong Kong-based Huanya International. Investigators link Huanya to Chinese gangster Wan Kuok Koi, also known as “Broken Tooth,” who oversees multiple criminal networks along the border.
While the military claims full control of the facility, sources indicate that some fraud operations may still be ongoing in parts of KK Park. Analysts suggest the army may only have secured portions of the sprawling complex.
Political Context
The operation comes ahead of Myanmar’s national elections scheduled for December, amid ongoing clashes with resistance forces. Some sources indicate that the raid was partly influenced by a list of Chinese nationals wanted for extradition, highlighting Beijing’s role in the region.
KK Park is just one of at least 30 similar cybercrime centers along the Myanmar-Thailand border, many protected by army-aligned Karen militias. The military’s partial control of the site reinforces its authority over illegal networks while sending a strategic message to China.
