In Syria, the SDF, the umbrella organization of the terrorist group PKK/YPG, has begun the process of integrating into the Syrian army as part of an agreement reached with the Damascus government. The details of the process and potential challenges have become clear.

How Will SDF Join the Syrian Army?

Under the integration process, the SDF will become a force composed of several brigades within the Syrian army. Additionally, the group will change its current name, “Syrian Democratic Forces.” An official statement noted, “As we build the New Syria, the title may be changed to reflect this stage of our country’s history.”

End-of-Year Target Seems Difficult

According to the March 10 agreement, SDF was expected to fully integrate into the Syrian army by the end of the year. However, due to incomplete adherence to the agreement and occasional attacks by the group, meeting the target by year-end seems unlikely.

SDF statements emphasized that timelines could be adjusted for realistic outcomes, though no exact schedule has been provided. This highlights that the integration process still lacks a definitive timetable.
