Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reported to the cabinet that his talks with US and European officials on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York collapsed due to what he called “American obstructionism.” He stressed that Tehran had demonstrated “all the necessary flexibility” but said the discussions “did not reach a conclusion.”

Consultations At The UNGA

Araghchi explained that negotiations with the European troika and indirect contacts with the American side in New York were intended to clarify positions and find common ground. However, he said the talks could not move forward, accusing Washington of deliberately blocking progress despite Iran’s efforts.

US Accused Of Blocking Progress

According to Iranian reports, Araghchi described the US posture as the “main factor” behind the failure. He stated that American “stonewalling” prevented the meetings from yielding results, while Tehran had already taken steps to ease concerns and offer solutions.

Sanctions And Snapback Dispute

The breakdown comes at a time when Iran faces renewed pressure over its nuclear program. The issue of the snapback mechanism triggered by Washington in August was a central point of contention. Reports indicate that Tehran is preparing a new counterplan to be presented in the coming cabinet sessions.

No Breakthrough With Europeans

Araghchi also held discussions with the European troika, but these too failed to produce progress. He did not provide details of future steps, only noting that the government would continue consultations on how to respond to US and European pressure.
