In a coordinated statement, the five major Western nations — Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom — expressed deep concern over the “escalating violence in Lebanon.” These countries urged Israeli and Lebanese officials to pursue a negotiated political solution and stressed that a significant Israeli ground operation could trigger a protracted humanitarian crisis.
The statement from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom specifically called on Hezbollah to stop targeting Israeli civilians and fully disarm. The five nations condemned the group’s alignment with Iran, saying its actions “further jeopardise regional peace and security.”
They emphasized the full implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the last major war in 2006, mandated Hezbollah’s disarmament, and required deployment of the Lebanese Armed Forces along with an expanded UNIFIL peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon.
Israeli airstrikes continue despite diplomatic calls for restraint. In Tyre, an attack near Jabal Amel Hospital killed at least one person and injured 16, highlighting the civilian toll and raising urgent humanitarian concerns.
The five Western nations reiterated support for the Lebanese government’s efforts to curb Hezbollah’s military activities, while expressing solidarity with civilians caught in the crossfire.
