An Iraqi security official said the embassy came under attack from three drones and four rockets. At least one drone reportedly crashed inside the embassy compound.
Witnesses described black smoke rising from the complex following an explosion, while air defence systems intercepted another incoming drone. Earlier in the night, a separate rocket attack targeting the embassy was reportedly foiled.
Security sources indicated that the attack was among the most intense assaults on the embassy since the recent wave of hostilities began. Initial assessments suggest that at least five drones were involved.
Shortly after the embassy attack, two airstrikes hit a house in the Jadiriya district of Baghdad. The location was reportedly used as a headquarters by the Popular Mobilisation Forces.
According to security sources, at least two individuals were killed in the strikes. No official confirmation has been provided regarding whether the airstrikes were directly linked to the embassy attack.
