Turkish Troops Evacuated from NATO Base in Baghdad
Turkish Ministry of National Defense announced that NATO has decided to withdraw its Iraq mission, with Turkish Armed Forces personnel successfully evacuated from Baghdad, while also supporting the departure of allied troops from the region.

In a statement from the Turkish Ministry of National Defense, it was said, “Within the framework of recent developments in our region, NATO authorities have decided to withdraw the ‘NATO Iraq Mission.’ Accordingly, the evacuation of our Turkish Armed Forces personnel serving in the capital of Iraq, Baghdad, to our country has been successfully carried out.”
Regarding the NATO Multinational Corps Headquarters planned to be established in Türkiye, Turkish Ministry of National Defense also shared the following information: “Our Ministry ordered the initiation of work to establish a Corps Headquarters within the framework of the 2023 NATO Southeastern Regional Plan, and this intention was declared to NATO in 2024. In this context, the 6th Corps Command has been assigned to meet the needs of the headquarters, which is planned to be commanded by a Turkish general, and the necessary appointments have been made to the national core staff.”
