Israel said it carried out strikes on two Iranian nuclear-program sites on Friday, targeting infrastructure linked to uranium processing and heavy-water production, according to statements from the Israeli military and Iranian media reports.
The Israeli military confirmed it struck the Khondab heavy-water facility at the site formerly known as Arak. The plant was originally built to support the adjacent reactor designed to produce plutonium, though the reactor remains inactive.
Israeli officials said the facility was targeted again due to ongoing reconstruction efforts, following a previous strike last June. Despite the attack, Iranian authorities reported no casualties and no radiation risk.
The second strike targeted the Shahid Rezayee Nejad yellowcake production facility in Ardakan, Yazd province. The facility, which began operations in 2013, is considered Iran’s only site for certain uranium extraction processes.
Israel said the strike hit core infrastructure used in uranium processing. Yellowcake is a key material in the early stages of uranium enrichment after being converted into uranium oxide.
Iranian officials confirmed that there was no radiation leak or environmental hazard following the attacks. Iran also notified the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) about the incident, according to documents cited in reports.
