France has placed an order for 25,000 rounds of 40mm cased telescoped ammunition from KNDS, with production and delivery set to continue until 2026. The deal includes the Multi-Purpose Timed Perforating Projectile variant, tailored for anti-armor use.
KNDS has already delivered 8,000 combat rounds to Paris. The first year of deliveries will supply 18,000 training rounds, with the capacity to scale up to 30,000 in later batches.
The cased telescoped design offers a compact format, enabling faster reloading and more efficient storage in the field. KNDS stated the contract will allow French forces to “further integrate and master” the 40mm ammunition system.
Jaguar and RAPIDFire Platforms to Benefit
The ammunition is intended for the French Army’s Jaguar six-wheeled armored fighting vehicles, jointly developed with Belgium. These vehicles are equipped with the 40CT cannon, which uses the newly procured shells as its primary ammunition.
The French Navy will also field the 40mm rounds with the RAPIDFire turret system aboard Jacques Chevallier-class replenishment ships. These vessels support at-sea refueling, logistics transport, and tactical supply operations.
In addition, the land-based RAPIDFire system—unveiled earlier this year at a Paris defense show—will also use the same ammunition. Future integration across other naval platforms is planned.
