Former Mossad Director David Barnea Joins US Defense Tech Firm Ondas

Former Mossad Director David Barnea has been appointed Global President and Chairman of Ondas Defense Ltd., a subsidiary of the U.S.-based technology contractor Ondas Inc.

The Nasdaq-listed defense firm announced the move on Monday. Barnea takes on the private-sector position just two months after concluding a five-year term as the head of the Israeli intelligence agency.

Ondas clarified that the hire operates strictly independently of Barnea’s past public service.

The corporation stated there is no operational relationship with the Mossad, and the former director is prohibited from sharing restricted or classified government data.

Internal Mossad legal advisers fully cleared the transition. Nevertheless, defense establishment figures in the region noted the unusually rapid shift from senior intelligence leadership directly into the commercial defense sector.

Strategic Consolidation

Barnea will serve on the senior executive leadership team alongside Ondas Inc. Chairman and CEO Eric Brock and Ondas Autonomous Systems Co-CEO Oshri Lugassy.

The mandate centers on steering international expansion, prioritizing the Middle East, Europe, and Asia.

The Florida-headquartered parent company, maintaining a market capitalization of approximately $5.05 billion, is pursuing an aggressive consolidation strategy.

Ondas aims to fuse multiple recent acquisitions into a singular, AI-driven autonomous defense platform.

These purchases include heavy investments in Israeli defense-tech firms such as Airobotics, Roboteam, and Sentrycs, alongside a $200 million deal for Omnisys.

Ondas also recently executed an $875.8 million acquisition of U.S.-based DZYNE Technologies and acquired the Scottish firm Cyberhawk.

Multi-Domain Warfare Focus

The firm registered over $70 million in new orders across a recent four-week window.

The contracts span unmanned ground robotics, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) systems, precision-strike assets, and counter-drone technologies.

Barnea will evaluate emerging capability gaps and dictate development priorities for this integrated architecture.

His operational background aligns directly with the exact military domains Ondas is acquiring and attempting to network into intelligence-to-strike loops.

“The nature of warfare is changing rapidly, as demonstrated by the conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine,” Barnea stated.

“Operational advantage increasingly depends on the ability to combine intelligence, artificial intelligence, resilient communications, autonomous platforms and precision capabilities into one coordinated operational environment.”

Leadership Transition

Barnea stepped down on June 2, marking the exit of the final major pre-October 7 senior security official.

During his intelligence tenure, he directed operations against Iranian networks, managed hostage negotiations, and oversaw the agency's push toward artificial intelligence and cyber modernization.

His succession involved significant internal friction. Barnea actively attempted to block his replacement, Maj. Gen. Roman Gofman, filing a petition with the High Court to argue that the former military secretary was unfit for the command.

Ondas, meanwhile, will seemingly continue to recruit high-level former officials from the Israeli defense apparatus.

Reports indicate the company is set to hire Brig. Gen. Yehuda Almakias, the former chief of the Defense Ministry’s research and development directorate, as a vice president.
