Egypt will inaugurate its new strategic military headquarters, known as the Octagon, on Saturday.
Located in the New Administrative Capital, the sprawling facility will serve as the permanent base for the defense ministry and the central command for the armed forces.
Centralized Military Command
The installation is designed to consolidate Egypt's military administration.
The complex features eight distinct octagonal buildings that will house various military departments and agencies in a single secure location.
Spanning 22,000 acres, the site is divided into 13 separate operational zones.
Two dedicated Republican Guard units provide primary security for the perimeter, supported by additional defensive measures.
Data and Cyber Infrastructure
The Octagon integrates advanced cyber-secure communication networks and early-warning systems.
It hosts a unified strategic data center and a closed network control hub designed to maintain government operations during severe crises.
The infrastructure links directly to crisis management centers across all Egyptian governorates and ministries.
Member of Parliament Mohamed Radi stated that this digital integration is necessary to counter emerging fourth- and fifth-generation warfare threats.
President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi recently opened the site's Government Data and Cloud Computing Center.
The facility aims to position Egypt as a primary digital transit corridor for the Middle East and Africa.
Operational Facilities
The complex incorporates multiple specialized units to ensure self-sufficiency and uninterrupted state control.
This includes a dedicated weather forecasting center to monitor sudden climate shifts and expansive storage depots for strategic civilian goods.
The defense hub also hosts the recently inaugurated El Safwa Hall, a digitally equipped, multi-purpose venue designed for high-level military conferences and official state visits.
Major General Walid Aref, head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority, oversaw the hall's completion.
Crisis Management Capabilities
Egyptian defense officials frame the relocation as a strategic shift toward modern crisis management.
Major General Osama Mahmoud Kebir noted that the site's location and architecture were selected to guarantee centralized control under extreme scenarios.
Beyond military structures, the wider complex includes residential zones, commercial centers, hospitals, and educational facilities.
This integrated design aims to support long-term operational readiness for state institutions during both peacetime and emergencies.
