Britain Launches Cyber Army to Target Putin’s Russia
UK creates new Cyber and Electromagnetic Command to lead offensive operations against hostile states. £1 billion allocated to AI-enhanced “kill web” and cyber warfare systems.
Britain has unveiled a bold new military doctrine centered on offensive cyber warfare, launching a £1 billion Cyber and Electromagnetic Command designed to strike back at hostile states like Russia and China, Defense Secretary John Healey announced on Wednesday.
Speaking from MoD Corsham, the UK’s cyber warfare hub, Healey said Britain faces “daily and increasing attacks,” and must now respond with equal aggression.
“The keyboard has become a weapon of war,” Healey stated, confirming for the first time that Britain will conduct offensive cyber operations, not just defensive ones.
The new command will unify cyber capabilities across the Royal Navy, Army, and RAF, enhancing both resilience and lethality in future conflicts.
Kill Web and AI-Driven Coordination
At the core of the strategy is a new AI-powered “Digital Targeting Web,” dubbed the “kill web,” which links sensors and strike platforms across domains.
By 2027, this system will allow Britain to detect threats—on land, sea, or space—and respond in milliseconds using F-35s, drones, or cyber attacks.
The system aims to match the operational pace seen in Ukraine, where connectivity and rapid targeting helped Ukrainian forces counter Russian advances.
Cyber Frontline Expands Beyond Defense
The new command will also take charge of electromagnetic warfare—jamming drone signals, degrading command networks, and intercepting enemy communications. These tools, previously siloed, will now be wielded in unified strikes.
Healey emphasized the need to innovate “faster than adversaries,” warning that the UK’s legacy systems and cyber vulnerabilities must be urgently modernized to confront nations like Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea.
