Russia Deploys Powerful Electronic Jammers to Disrupt Musk's Starlink

Russian military units have launched a targeted electronic warfare campaign to disrupt Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet systems in an effort to neutralize Ukraine’s deep-penetrating drone operations.

According to Ukrainian drone commanders and pilots, Moscow is installing powerful jamming devices near towns and military installations to sever the satellite connections utilized to pilot long-range unmanned aerial vehicles.

Electronic Interdiction

Kyiv's mid-strike drone operations, which target logistics hubs dozens of kilometers behind the front lines, rely heavily on the Starlink network for remote pilot communication.

The SpaceX-built satellite infrastructure was previously regarded as largely resilient against electronic interdiction.

Serhii Beskrestnov, an advisor to the Ukrainian defense ministry, stated that Russian forces are deploying a specific electronic warfare asset known as the Volna Kupol Garant.

The system generates a signal that can destabilize Starlink connections across an area of approximately 20 square kilometers.

Ukrainian forces have detected roughly 10 of these specialized jamming installations so far. Rob Lee, a senior fellow at the U.S.-based Foreign Policy Research Institute, noted that scaling the production of these jammers could significantly impede Kyiv's deep aerial operations.

Counter-Targeting Campaign

The specialized Russian electronic warfare units have quickly become high-priority targets for Ukrainian drone crews seeking to restore unhindered satellite connectivity.

The 422nd Unmanned Systems Regiment, operating in southern Zaporizhzhia, recently neutralized two of these jamming installations.

One system was destroyed during a joint operation with the SBU security service hours after its initial detection, immediately restoring trouble-free Starlink-equipped drone flights in the sector.

While Moscow attempts to degrade the network, Elon Musk has blocked Russian forces from utilizing Starlink infrastructure for their own domestic drone operations.

Tactical Adaptation

In tandem with electronic disruption, the Russian military is altering its logistics to protect vulnerable supply lines from mid-strike drone campaigns.

To evade aerial surveillance, Russian forces are camouflaging fuel shipments inside civilian infrastructure, including milk trucks and water tankers filled with gasoline and diesel fuel.

Supplies are also being distributed using small civilian cars, quadbikes, and motorcycles.

Military logistics are being hidden inside camouflaged dugouts, abandoned structures, and agricultural buildings, while civilian gas stations are being used to store military fuel reserves.

Small convoys of fuel tankers are now escorted by pickup trucks equipped with machine guns along secondary roads to minimize exposure to Starlink-guided strikes.
