Qatar Intercepts Iranian Missile Amid Explosions in Gulf

The attacks underscore escalating regional tensions as Tehran continues its response to February 28 U.S.-Israeli strikes.

The Qatari Defense Ministry confirmed that its armed forces successfully intercepted the missile attack, which targeted the State of Qatar. AFP journalists in Doha reported hearing multiple explosions, following similar blasts in the Qatari capital the previous day.

Authorities emphasized that 13 ballistic missiles were destroyed in mid-air, while one fell in an uninhabited area without causing casualties or damage.

In the United Arab Emirates, residents of Dubai reported hearing three explosions after receiving mobile alerts warning them to “immediately seek a safe place” due to potential missile threats. Officials have not reported casualties, though the alerts highlight the spread of regional tensions beyond Qatar.

The missile and drone strikes are part of Iran’s ongoing retaliatory campaign following joint U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on February 28, which reportedly killed around 1,200 people, including former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Tehran’s response has included targeting U.S. military assets and allied locations in Gulf countries, Iraq, Jordan, and Israel. Some strikes have caused casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure, including airports, ports, and buildings.
