The U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran has entered its third week, with no clear end in sight. The fighting has shut down the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime route for 20% of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas, causing oil prices to surge and sparking concerns of rising global inflation.
Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani, an Israeli military spokesperson, said the armed forces have thousands of targets inside Iran and are focused on weakening Tehran’s ability to threaten Israel.
We want to make sure that they are as weak as possible, this regime, and that we degrade all their capabilities, all parts and all wings of their security establishment.
Israel frames its operation as limited to degrading Iran’s military and nuclear capabilities, though additional plans are reportedly in place to extend operations beyond the immediate three-week timeframe.
Iranian media reported multiple civilian casualties from overnight airstrikes. In Markazi province, at least five people were killed and seven wounded. Residential areas in Arak city and Mahallat county were struck, and a boys’ school in Khomein city was damaged.
Rescue teams worked in Tehran to remove civilians trapped under rubble from residential buildings. Fars News Agency reported strikes near Martyrs’ Square caused additional casualties, though exact figures were not confirmed.
The conflict has disrupted international energy markets. Iranian drone attacks temporarily closed Dubai International Airport and struck a major UAE oil facility.
U.S. President Donald Trump called for an international coalition to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and warned NATO could face a “very bad” future if allies fail to support the effort. However, allies have expressed caution, emphasizing diplomatic solutions over direct military involvement.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Tehran has not requested a ceasefire or exchanged messages with Washington, signaling continued escalation.
The Israeli military continues to target Tehran, Shiraz, and Tabriz, describing these strikes as hits against the infrastructure of the “Iranian terror regime.”
