Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have decided to spend an extended period in the United Kingdom beginning this autumn, more than six years after withdrawing from frontline royal duties.
A source close to the Sussexes told the Associated Press that their children, seven-year-old Prince Archie and five-year-old Princess Lilibet, have been enrolled in British schools and are expected to begin classes in September.
The family plans to live in a privately owned residence outside London while retaining its homes in Montecito, California, and Portugal.
Return Without Royal Duties
Harry and Meghan will not return as working members of the royal family despite establishing a more permanent presence in Britain.
The couple stepped down from royal duties more than six years ago before moving to California, where they pursued commercial partnerships with companies including Netflix and Spotify.
The Daily Telegraph first reported the planned move.
Asked about the report during a roundtable with U.S. veterans in Washington on Wednesday, Harry declined to confirm or deny it.
“I have nothing to say,” he responded.
Representatives for the couple also declined to comment, while Buckingham Palace maintained its policy of not addressing speculation concerning non-working members of the royal family.
Children Enrolled in British Schools
The enrollment of Archie and Lilibet in British schools represents the clearest indication that the visit will extend beyond a temporary family trip.
The children have largely been raised in California since Harry and Meghan relocated to the exclusive community of Montecito.
The couple intends to maintain its international residences, indicating that the arrangement does not amount to a complete departure from the United States.
Reconciliation With King Charles
The planned return comes as Harry has expressed interest in repairing relations with his father, King Charles III, who is receiving treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer.
Charles was reportedly informed of the couple’s plans on Sunday.
Harry and Meghan also visited Britain last month amid efforts to improve relations after years of public disagreements between the Sussexes and other members of the royal family.
A longer stay would allow Harry to spend more time with his father and increase his involvement with British charities.
Meghan is expected to continue managing her As Ever lifestyle company from the United Kingdom.
