“The Last Days Have Been Tough”

Speaking to Greenland’s national broadcaster KNR, Motzfeldt detailed the intense pressure faced by her diplomatic team.

“We have been working very hard in our department, even though there are not many of us,” she said. “I would not normally like to say these words, but I will say them: ‘We are very strong. We are doing our utmost.’”

As she continued, Motzfeldt became visibly emotional and briefly paused, struggling to maintain composure.

“Oh, I am getting very emotional. I am overwhelmed,” she said. “The last days have been tough. Our preparations and the increasing pressure — that has been intense.”

Message of Resilience to Greenlanders

Despite the emotional moment, Motzfeldt emphasised that Greenland’s government remains determined to protect its people.

“We will work to ensure that the Greenlandic people in our country can feel safe and live securely,” she said, adding: “We are using all our strength to achieve this as we continue the work.”

Talks End in “Fundamental Disagreement”

Greenland’s Foreign Minister Vivian Motzfeldt and Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen met US Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the White House on Wednesday. The discussions concluded without progress, with officials acknowledging a “fundamental disagreement” over Greenland’s political status.

The meeting followed renewed assertions by President Donald Trump that Greenland should come under US control for national security reasons.
