A newly surfaced U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) document from 2020 has injected intelligence allegations into the already complex record surrounding Jeffrey Epstein, the late U.S. financier and convicted sex offender.

The document that records claims made by a single confidential human source is labeled as a confidential human source (CHS) report and dated 16 October 2020. It sits within FBI material focused on “improper domestic or foreign influence over the electoral process in the US,” but the source “expanded on several matters.”

According to the source, Epstein was “trained as a spy” and later viewed as a “co-opted Mossad Agent.” The file does not state that the FBI verified these assertions or acted on them.

The CHS claimed to have reviewed phone calls between Epstein and Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz, saying notes from those calls were relayed to Israel’s Mossad.

The same source asserted that Dershowitz told another U.S. attorney “Epstein belonged to both US and allied intelligence services”, a claim recorded as an allegation in the report without providing corroborating evidence, dates, or operational detail.

Barak Connection and Political Overtones

The source attributed the alleged intelligence role to a relationship with Ehud Barak, Israel’s prime minister from 1999 to 2001 and defense minister from 2007 to 2013. The informant said Barak regarded current Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a “criminal” and discussed Epstein repeatedly before concluding he was tied to Israeli intelligence. These claims are presented as the source’s recollection, not as an institutional assessment.

Other recently released Epstein-related files show that Epstein and Barak maintained a long-running personal and professional relationship. Those documents indicate Epstein advised Barak on the data analytics firm Palantir, discussed “massive” consultancy fees for former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, and encouraged Barak to help former British minister Lord Peter Mandelson secure a role at an energy company. None of those records describe intelligence activity.

“It Proves the Opposite”

Netanyahu publicly rejected the implication that Epstein worked for Israel. Writing on X on Friday, he said, “Jeffrey Epstein's unusual close relationship with Ehud Barak doesn't suggest Epstein worked for Israel. It proves the opposite.”

He added that Barak “has for years obsessively attempted to undermine Israeli democracy,” accusing him of acting “publicly and behind the scenes to undermine the government of Israel.”

The statement framed the controversy as part of Israel’s internal political conflict rather than an intelligence matter.

Wider Allegations and Secondary Claims

The CHS document also recorded broader assertions that extend beyond Epstein. The source alleged that venture capital firm Day One Ventures was operating in Silicon Valley “to steal technology,” and described its founder, Masha Bucher, a former Epstein publicist, as “Vladimir Putin's main contact in the Russian Youth movement.”

The file further suggested longstanding ties between the family of Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law and aide, and Israel, citing Charles Kushner and alleging “corrupt business practices” without detail.

Each of these claims appears once under a single source identifier in the FBI files. No corroboration, follow-up reporting, or official findings are included.
