After his meeting in Beirut, Barrack praised Lebanon’s “balanced response” and emphasized that the US does not intend to impose decisions regarding Hezbollah. “We had a very satisfactory meeting,” Barrack said, noting that the US will maintain a supportive—not directive—role in the process.

The roadmap reportedly focuses on demilitarizing Hezbollah’s political wing while increasing government authority in southern Lebanon, where the group operates near the Israeli border.

Border Clashes Raise Urgency

The diplomatic talks come amid rising violence along the Lebanon-Israel border. Recent Israeli airstrikes and Hezbollah rocket fire have raised fears of full-scale conflict. Ten civilians were reported injured in Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon over the weekend, adding to regional instability.

Hezbollah leadership has said it remains open to peace but refuses to disarm while Israeli violations continue.

International Stakeholders Monitor Progress

The proposal has drawn attention from European and Arab states, with diplomatic efforts now focused on avoiding broader regional escalation. Barrack’s remarks were welcomed by Lebanese officials as a sign of de-escalation, though the process ahead remains politically sensitive.

The US has not publicly released the full contents of the disarmament roadmap.
