Pakistan’s army said it carried out precision airstrikes on TTP positions along the Afghan border, killing more than 70 militants, including key leaders. The strikes came after a series of deadly attacks in North Waziristan and amid growing tensions between Islamabad and Kabul over cross-border violence.
Strikes After Ceasefire Collapse
Military officials described the air raids as “precision operations” based on verified intelligence, targeting TTP hideouts in North and South Waziristan. The Hafiz Gul Bahadur faction — blamed for recent suicide bombings and ambushes — reportedly suffered heavy losses. Officials said the decision to strike followed continued TTP attacks despite an agreed truce.
Kabul’s Condemnation and Civilian Claims
Afghan authorities accused Pakistan of violating the ceasefire and striking civilian areas in Paktika and Khost provinces. Kabul claimed several homes were hit, calling the attack “a breach of sovereignty.” Islamabad rejected the allegations, insisting the operation targeted “terror networks” responsible for attacks on Pakistani soil. Independent footage from the border region showed damaged buildings, but casualty reports remain contested.
Diplomatic Efforts and Doha Talks
Diplomatic channels are now focused on restoring calm. Sources said both sides are considering renewed talks in Doha, with mediators pushing for de-escalation. However, continued exchanges of fire and mutual accusations threaten to derail the process, raising fears of a wider confrontation that could destabilize trade and humanitarian corridors along the frontier.
