Nato launched a new mission, Eastern Sentry, to reinforce Europe’s eastern flank after more than a dozen Russian drones entered Poland this week, a breach Warsaw called deliberate and that allied officials said demanded a visible, immediate response.

Swift Allied Reinforcements

Denmark is deploying two F-16s and a warship, France is sending Rafale fighters, Germany will contribute Eurofighters, and the United Kingdom signaled additional support, with Nato commanders describing a flexible posture spanning the Baltics to the Black Sea to keep adversaries uncertain.

Poland Says Incursion Was Deliberate

Polish officials said 19 drones crossed into their territory—some shot down, others crashing into fields and a home—calling it “the closest we have been to open conflict since World War Two,” and insisting, “We know… it was not a mistake.”

Washington’s Message At The UN

At an emergency Security Council session, the acting U.S. ambassador declared, “The United States stands by our Nato allies… we will defend every inch of Nato territory,” as a joint bloc of countries condemned the violation and urged Moscow to halt further aggression.

Moscow And Minsk Push Back

The Kremlin argued peace talks were on “pause” because of Western actions and said drones lacked the range to target Poland, while Belarus claimed some unmanned systems strayed after electronic jamming—assertions dismissed by European officials given the number and depth of the incursions.

A Test Of Diplomacy After The Alaska Summit

The strikes came weeks after the Trump-Putin meeting in Alaska produced no ceasefire, with allied capitals saying the latest aerial barrages show “no interest” in ending the war, even as Kyiv deepens long-range drone attacks on Russian refineries and logistics hubs.
