Spanish authorities arrested a suspected member of the Islamic State (ISIS) in central Spain last week, following a coordinated intelligence operation with Morocco. The suspect was detained in the city of Guadalajara and immediately brought before Spain’s National Court, which handles international terror cases.

Moroccan officials confirmed the operation was executed with support from the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), which helped verify the suspect’s presence in Spain. This reactivated judicial proceedings previously filed against the individual in Morocco for terrorism-related offenses.

This arrest follows a broader pattern of successful bilateral security cooperation. In November 2024, a joint Spanish-Moroccan operation dismantled an ISIS-linked terror cell, resulting in the arrest of nine suspects across both countries. Authorities seized weapons, electronics, and extremist materials in that operation.

Morocco and Spain have consistently emphasized the importance of regional intelligence-sharing to combat extremist threats. Officials say these joint actions demonstrate the effectiveness of cross-border cooperation in addressing international terrorism.
