A shelling attack on Dilling, the capital of South Kordofan, killed at least 14 people, including 5 children and 2 women, according to the Sudan Doctors Network.
The assault, launched on Saturday, also wounded at least 23 individuals, including 7 additional children, amid what the group described as shelling of residential neighborhoods.
The RSF and allied Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North forces carried out hourslong bombardments targeting populated areas.
Dilling had endured famine-like conditions during the blockade, as supplies were cut and repeated bombardments disrupted daily life. The latest attack indicates a return to high-intensity fighting in areas already weakened by prolonged isolation.
The Sudan Doctors Network warned of a potential “catastrophic scenario” similar to events in el-Fasher in Darfur. There, more than 6,000 people were killed over 3 days in October, in violence described by U.N.-commissioned experts as bearing “hallmarks of genocide.”
The medical group said the current escalation risks replicating those patterns in Kordofan, where humanitarian conditions remain severe.
The latest violence in Dilling reflects a broader trend: sustained attacks on civilian areas, deteriorating humanitarian conditions, and expanding geographic scope of the conflict.
