US-Iran Talks in Qatar End, Set to Resume After Khamenei's Funeral

Iran and the United States concluded a round of indirect talks in Doha on Wednesday without signs of progress toward lasting peace.
The two sides revisited issues negotiators said “had already been resolved” under an interim agreement reached two weeks earlier.
Qatar's Foreign Ministry said the next meeting would take place after funeral processions for Iran's late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, due to be buried on July 9.
The ministry described the talks as producing "positive progress," building on a prior summit in Switzerland.
Nuclear Program Absent From Technical Talks
President Donald Trump told reporters, "The denuclearization of Iran is moving along well," but sources said the nuclear program did not actually come up in the technical discussions.
U.S. Vice President JD Vance said that the issue would be addressed later: "Obviously, we're worried about the nuclear issue, we're going to start talking about that."
Strait of Hormuz Remains Contested
The interim deal calls for reopening the strait, which handled one-fifth of global oil and LNG trade before the war.
Yet Iran has said it will assess shipping tolls starting in mid-August, once a toll-free period expires.
Iranian state media reported that a foreign container ship ran aground outside its designated shipping route.
Oil prices fell to a four-month low following Trump's remarks, with analysts cutting price forecasts for the first time since the war began.
