Trump Hid in Catering Container and Flew in Military Jet from Ankara Summit

Top U.S. security officials deployed a high-level deception scheme to spirit President Donald Trump out of the NATO summit in Türkiye last month, transporting him inside a catering container to a concealed military jet following a credible threat from Iran.

Senior administration figures orchestrated the covert evacuation after intelligence indicated a direct threat to the commander-in-chief and his aircraft, according to The New York Times.

While journalists and staff watched the president board a traditional presidential Boeing 747 in Türkiye, he was secretly transferred from the opposite side of the aircraft using a catering container.

The container hoisted the president directly onto a separate military plane, a C-32A variant of the Boeing 757, which flew him secretly to Great Britain under complete operational blackout.

Unwitting Decoys

The primary presidential aircraft proceeded along its public flight path to RAF Mildenhall carrying journalists and aides who served as unknowing decoys.

Journalists aboard the decoy flight were instructed to keep all window shades lowered during takeoff from Türkiye, unaware the president was no longer on board.

Upon landing in Britain, the president was secretly re-boarded onto the primary aircraft before stepping off in view of the media pool to switch to a separate government jet for the final leg to Washington.

High-Level Planning

The covert operation was arranged within hours by a tight circle of leadership, including Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Dan Caine and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

Former Secret Service protective detail agent Donald Mihalek confirmed that counter-terrorism protocols routinely prioritize security over public disclosure when operating in high-risk environments.

“Anytime the president is in a theater where there’s potential combat danger, the Secret Service has employed protective countermeasures including the use of a decoy,” Mihalek said, adding that “their number one job is to keep the president safe.”

White House Director of Communications Steven Cheung previously acknowledged the administration's tactical posture regarding security operations.

“As the president has said recently, there are many enemies of America who have their sights on him, and we use every tool at our disposal, including distraction and misdirection, to address those threats,” Cheung stated.

Escalating Iranian Threat

The elaborate evasion follows sustained targeting by Tehran against high-ranking U.S. personnel, which intensified after the launch of military operations against Iran on Feb. 28.

Speaking to reporters during his return flight across the Atlantic, the president acknowledged the lingering danger.

“I’m number one on their list, before you,” he told traveling journalists. “But if I go, you go. Right?”
