Turkish frigate TCG Oruçreis arrived in New York Harbor as part of Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1), joining the International Naval Review 250 and New York Fleet Week.
The event forms part of the U.S. Navy's 250th anniversary celebrations, bringing together naval forces from nations in what NATO called a "high-visibility demonstration of maritime cooperation, capability, and unity."
A Six-Ship Multinational Task Group
SNMG1 is composed of the German frigate FGS Sachsen (F219) as flagship, Dutch frigate HNLMS Van Amstel (F831) and combat support ship HNLMS Den Helder (A834), Norwegian frigate HNoMS Fridtjof Nansen (F310), and Turkish frigate TCG Oruçreis (F245).
Commander SNMG1, Royal Navy Commodore Maryla Ingham, said: "Sailing as a Task Group of six multinational ships, we demonstrate every day that the Alliance's greatest advantage is its cohesion."
The New York visit underscores what NATO's Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM) called "enduring cooperation between North American and European Allies," coinciding with wider U.S. Navy 250th anniversary programming.
