Türkiye’s Ministry of National Defense (MSB) on Feb. 26, 2026, formally denied claims that S-400 air defense systems could be sent to Somalia.
Speaking during its weekly press briefing, the ministry addressed reports circulating in certain media outlets and on social media that suggested a possible deployment of the Russian-made system abroad.
The ministry stated clearly that “there is no planning for the use of S-400 air defense systems in Somalia.”
It emphasized that the systems were acquired in line with the operational requirements of the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) and remain mission-ready.
Officials also cautioned against giving credence to speculation outside official statements, noting that similar claims regarding the S-400 periodically surface in public discourse.
The MSB reiterated that the S-400 systems are fully integrated within the Turkish Armed Forces structure and were procured strictly to meet national defense needs.
The systems remain under Turkish control and are maintained in a ready status.
The ministry confirmed that Türkiye continues defense cooperation with Somalia under existing bilateral agreements.
These activities include supporting the organization of the Somali Armed Forces, assisting in counterterrorism efforts, and helping safeguard Somalia’s economic resources, alongside protecting Türkiye’s national interests.
