Western Nations Condemn Iran’s Cross-Border Threat Campaign

The statement, endorsed by Albania, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, the UK, and the U.S., comes amid mounting concern over Iran’s intelligence reach. British authorities said they have foiled over 20 plots since 2022 involving threats against individuals—some of them UK citizens—viewed as adversaries by Tehran.

Reuters previously reported that Iranian operatives were behind a wave of attempted assassinations and abductions across Europe and the U.S. The latest joint statement reinforced claims that such operations have increased in frequency and are often facilitated by global criminal networks.

Iran’s embassy in London did not respond to the recent statement but had earlier dismissed a UK parliamentary report branding Iran as a significant national security threat. Tehran labeled the findings as “unfounded” and “dangerous,” asserting they were politically charged and lacked substantiation.

In March, the British government introduced new foreign influence registration rules targeting Iranian state-linked activities, citing concerns about Tehran’s “increasingly aggressive behavior.” The move was part of broader counterintelligence measures to contain foreign interference within the UK.
