Russia has issued a strong condemnation of recent threats to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities, following renewed rhetoric from U.S. President Donald Trump and a 12-day Israeli-Iranian military confrontation. Speaking in Moscow on Wednesday, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said any calls for military action against Tehran’s atomic infrastructure were dangerous provocations that undermined regional peace. Citing Iran’s declared civilian nuclear intentions, Zakharova criticized what she called biased and unfounded accusations against Tehran, warning of the consequences of military adventurism in the Middle East.
Moscow Slams ‘Cynical’ Threats Over Peaceful Program
Zakharova emphasized that Tehran’s nuclear activities remain within civilian bounds, consistently affirmed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). She warned that the rhetoric of launching “rocket-bomb attacks” under the pretense of non-proliferation concerns lacked technical objectivity and was driven by anti-Iran sentiment.
“The Russian side categorically condemns any calls for military attacks aimed at eliminating misunderstandings or conflicts related to the Islamic Republic of Iran's peaceful atomic program,” she said, calling such threats both cynical and irresponsible.
The latest warnings come amid rising tension following indirect U.S.-Iran negotiations and a June bombing campaign that reportedly hit three Iranian nuclear sites.
Humanitarian Concerns Extend To Gaza
Zakharova also addressed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, stating that Russia aligns with the United Nations and other international organizations in calling the situation catastrophic. She urged the immediate provision of aid in line with global humanitarian principles.
With geopolitical tensions mounting in both the Gulf and the Levant, Moscow’s statements signal its broader opposition to unilateral military actions and continued destabilization of the region under the banner of security enforcement.
