Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov noted that while Trump's peace plan addresses the Gaza Strip, it does so in general terms without providing clear details on Palestinian statehood. He pointed out the necessity of defining the future of the West Bank and ensuring that the plan aligns with UN Security Council resolutions. "We have noted that Donald Trump's peace plan only addresses the Gaza Strip. It mentions statehood, but in rather general terms," Lavrov stated.
Lavrov on Trump’s Gaza Plan
Lavrov noted that Russia considers Trump’s Gaza plan the “best available proposal” but added that it does not fully resolve the Palestinian issue. He said:
“The plan only addresses Gaza. It mentions statehood, but these references need further clarification. The final status of the West Bank must also be determined. UN resolutions envision a Palestinian State with full territorial integrity within the 1967 borders.
Lavrov’s Statement on the Palestinian Plan
Lavrov emphasized that once all elements of the Gaza plan are implemented, efforts must focus on building a Palestinian State. “We must stop the bloodshed, solve humanitarian problems, and rebuild Gaza. At the same time, work on the plan for a Palestinian State must begin without delay,” he said. He added that Russia would work to ensure the agreements reached under the peace plan are carried out.
Criticism of Western Policies Toward Palestine
Lavrov criticized Western policies on Palestine, claiming that the West is more interested in structures it can control rather than an independent Palestinian State. He warned that failure to resolve the issues related to Palestinian statehood could fuel extremist tendencies in the region.
